The Phoenix Suns are said to be in trade discussions with the Memphis Grizzles around forward Rudy Gay, according to Yahoo! Sports.
The site reports the Grizzlies have been in touch with several teams regarding Gay’s services and have found a potential buyer in the Suns.
The discussions are said to be at the early stages but Memphis is believed to be seeking a package revolving around draft picks and Suns forward Jared Dudley.
The Grizzlies new ownership group is skeptical that the current roster will be capable of contending for a title and is also looking to obtain some salary cap flexibility.
Gay is set to earn $16.4 million this season but with Zach Randolph, Marc Gasol and Mike Conley also signed to lucrative long-term deals, changes may need to be made.
The Grizzlies currently sit in fourth place in the Western Conference with a 22-10 record.
