TORONTO — Newly signed Toronto Raptors forward Luis Scola has been named to Argentina’s preliminary team for the 2015 FIBA Americas Championship.

Coach Sergio Hernandez, currently with an Argentine team at the Pan American Games, chose eight players for next month’s Mexico City tournament.

The eight are Scola, former Raptor Carlos Delfino, Nicolas Aguirre, Selem Safar, Andres Nocioni, Franco Giorgetti, Gabriel Deck, and Leonardo Mainoldi. They will be joined by players from the Pan Am team.

Delfino, who spent time in the NBA with Toronto, Detroit and Milwaukee, has been out of basketball since April 2013 due to a foot injury.

The six-foot-nine, 240-pound Scola is a three-time Olympian who won gold at the 2004 Games in Athens and bronze in 2008 in Beijing.

The eight-year NBA veteran previously played for Indiana, Houston and Phoenix.

The 10-team FIBA Americas Championship starts Aug. 31 with the top two teams qualifying for the 2016 Olympics and teams three through five moving on to an Olympic qualifying tournament.
