With news breaking this morning that multi-faceted ESPN baseball and college basketball play-by-play man Dan Shulman will be joining the Blue Jays’ broadcast team, the city of Toronto is thrilled to be welcoming back one of the most prolific names in sports media.
And while most of the recent buzz is certainly around the hometown baseball club, college basketball is now in its beginning stages and Shulman has taken first-hand notice of one of Canada’s biggest household names in that sport.
“Jamal Murray I think is going to be a very good college player, and an even better NBA player,” Shulman said Thursday morning during an interview on The Dean Blundell Show on Sportsnet 590 The FAN. “I’m all in on Jamal Murray.”
Shulman, who called the men’s Canadian basketball team’s games during the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto alongside Fran Fraschilla, had a chance to see Murray showcase his talents up close and personal. Shulman was also courtside on Tuesday calling an early, and incredibly anticipated, matchup between Murray’s Kentucky Wildcats and the 2014-15 NCAA champion Duke Blue Devils in the Champions Classic.
Murray did not disappoint, finishing his biggest college game on a national stage with 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals in 38 minutes in the Wildcats’ 74-63 win.
With the 18-year-old already raising eyebrows in the early going, Shulman believes the sky is the limit for the Kitchener, Ont., native.
“I think Jamal Murray is an incredible talent,” said Shulman.
“I think at the next level, he’s a superstar.”
