Nash passes Magic in career assists

Steve Nash isn’t close to the greatest Los Angeles Lakers point guard but he passed legend Magic Johnson as No. 4 on the all-time assists list Wednesday.

Nash surpassed Johnson (his 10,142nd assist) when he set up Lakers forward Antawn Jamison for an easy layup to pick up his fifth assist of the night during Los Angeles’ win over the rival Boston Celtics.

The Canadian point guard finished the contest with seven assist and now is a total of 10,144 in his illustrious career.

According to CBSsports.com, Nash is now 192 helpers away from passing Mark Jackson (10,334) while second is Jason Kidd (12,006) and the first is John Stockton (15,806).

After the game, Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni was full of praise for the Canadian point guard.

The two-time MVP is averaging 11.9 points and 7.4 assists in his first season with the Lakers .
