THE DOC MAKES HIS PLAYOFF DEBUT WEDNESDAY ON ROGERS SPORTSNET
Wednesday’s opening day of the playoffs also includes the Rays v the Rangers and the Yankees v. the Twins
TORONTO (October 4, 2010) – Roy Halladay and the National League East winning Philadelphia Phillies entertain the Central Division champion Cincinnati Reds in the first day of baseball playoff action on Wednesday, October 6 at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT on the Rogers Sportsnet East, Ontario, West and Pacific channels.
The American League will also be in action on two fronts on Wednesday. First up, the East Division champion Tampa Bay Rays face the West Division champion Texas Rangers on at 1:30 p.m. ET/10:30 a.m. PT on the Rogers Sportsnet East, Ontario, West and Pacific channels. The American League Wild Card champion New York Yankees will open their series versus the Central Division winning Minnesota Twins on Wednesday, October 6 at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT on the Rogers Sportsnet East, Ontario, West and Pacific channels.
The five-game series between the Phillies and the Reds should hold a lot of interest for Canadian fans as former Blue Jay Roy Halladay will be making his playoff debut after spending 12 seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays while the Reds batting order features Etobicoke-born slugger Joey Votto who finished second in the senior circuit in batting average and third in both home runs and RBIs.
The Rangers will be making their first playoff appearance since 1999. They are currently the only Major League Baseball team to have never won a post-season series in their franchise history and have only won one playoff game in that time. Meanwhile the Rays are looking to build on their success from 2008 where they made it all the way to the World Series before losing to the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Yankees will be facing the Twins in the Divisional Series for the second year in a row. Last year, the Bronx Bombers swept the Twins in three straight games before besting the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the Championship series and eventually winning the World Series versus the Philadelphia Phillies.
