First media job:Compiling sports agate for The Canadian Press (1997)
Career highlight:Where to begin? The experience of covering the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, capped off by the gold-medal hockey game, was a rush like no other in my career. Canada's victory over the United States in the 2006 World Baseball Classic was unforgettable. One-hitters by Brandon Morrow and Dustin McGowan nearly satisfied my quest to report on a no-no (I'm good on near misses). Jose Bautista's 50th homer in 2010 was pretty awesome, and so was watching Roberto Alomar and Pat Gillick get inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2011. The 2011 World Junior Hockey Championship and Grey Cup games in Toronto and Montreal were all a blast. My news reporting stints with the Jerusalem Post and Japan Times taught me to really appreciate life in the toy department.
Special interests/hobbies:I love backpacking through foreign lands (Rome, Jerusalem, Hong Kong and Tokyo are my favourite cities; Angkor Wat, Machu Picchu, the Taj Mahal and the Giza Pyramids blew me away); Middle Eastern history and current events fascinate me; cooking and barbecuing are a passion.
Bio: I grew up during the glory years for baseball in Toronto, and the Blue Jays were a staple of life for me and my friends back in the day. Remember the old $2 general admission tickets at Exhibition Stadium? They made for some great summers. The old Baseball Weekly was like a bible and I played the game - quite poorly, I add reluctantly - as often as I could. Being part of the Blue Jays broadcast was one of my childhood dreams and realizing it with Rogers Sportsnet is an incredible thrill. I am a graduate of Newtonbrook Secondary School and a proud product of Ryerson University's outstanding journalism program, where I was inspired to pursue a career in writing. The Canadian Press gave me the opportunity to get established in this business. Joining Rogers Sportsnet is the culmination of all my work so far, and my goal is to continually provide baseball stories that enlighten, engage and entertain our audience.
