Birthplace:
As a small kindergarten boy, Luke attempted his first sleepover at his best friend’s house. A Saturday night promising junk food and action figures. Around 8:15 p.m. he suddenly changed my mind. Luke didn’t feel the need to stay over anymore, so he called his parents.
"I want to go home," he told his dad. "They don’t watch Hockey Night in Canada at Derek’s house."
Growing up, Luke was certain he wanted to be either (a) the next great NHL right-winger or (b) the next great MC. Problem was, he could not skate very fast and his rhyme skills were bad. Bad meaning bad, not bad meaning good.
Instead, he decided to write about his two favourites: music and sports.
His first co-op placement out of journalism school was shadowing the beat reporter for the Dallas Stars in 1999. The Stars won the Cup that year, and Luke took full credit.
Luke has written a book. It’s called Ice-T Shot Me in the Face and Eleven Other Stories about Rap Music. It does contain a hockey metaphor.
