Bio:
I started playing lacrosse in Mimico at age 12 and immediately fell in love with the game. I eventually played Junior for Etobicoke, and Senior lacrosse for almost 20 years in Mississauga, Orangeville, Brampton, Six Nations, Buffalo, Akwasasne and Owen Sound. In my first year of senior lacrosse my team, the Mississauga Renegades, lost every game. In 1992 I was part of the Brampton Excelsiors, who won all their regular season games before winning the coveted Mann Cup. I would wager that there are very few, if any, players who experienced both extremes. I have great memories from both teams.
How did I go from the playing side to media? In 1994 I phoned a sports radio station to answer a trivia question for a prize. When I said I was calling from Mimico, the host, Gord Stellick, asked me if I knew that Mimico was the hometown of Brendan Shanahan. I informed him that we were brothers and was promptly grilled to prove it. He realized I was telling the truth when I couldn't give him my brother's birth date without asking my wife. Before the conversation was over I was given the unofficial title of lacrosse correspondent and self-appointed lacrosse spokesman.
In 1998, the birth of the Toronto Rock coincided with my old age. I was a player-coach for the Rock, who was possibly not going to see any playing time. I jumped at the TV job when I heard it was available. Anyone that has played competitive sports will tell you that each game is an adrenaline rush. I have found being part of the television broadcast team gives me the same feeling. Although playing lacrosse was great, I'm having too much fun now to miss it. And for someone who preached about the game of lacrosse for many years, it is very satisfying to still be a part of it now that it is enjoying great popularity."
