Toronto, Ontario
First media job:Writing about Canadian soccer for RedNation Online.
Career highlight:It's pretty hard to pick just one. Overall, it has been very exciting to witness the growth of interest in the sport of soccer in Canada that has come along with the birth of Toronto FC and the MLS in our fine country, as well as to have played a small role in celebrating, analyzing and documenting it. Specifically, over the last several years it has been a real highlight to have been able to interview some players, writers and coaches who I really admire, including Paul Stalteri, Atiba Hutchinson, Simeon Jackson, Paul James, Simon Kuper, Torsten Frings, Patrice Bernier and Tony Waiters, just to name a few.
Special interests/hobbies:Outside of following the comings and goings of Canadian soccer, I'm a huge fan of Arsenal and Arsene Wenger in particular. And apart from a healthy soccer fixation, I pretty much enjoy reading any type of writing ranging from science fiction to non-fiction to political commentary to thrillers.
Bio: My earliest memories of professional soccer are of going to see NASL matches with my Father when I was a kid to cheer on the Toronto Blizzard. With my Dad telling me to pay close attention to a player named Franz Beckenbauer, for some reason I took a shine to a Canadian player named Randy Ragan, who would go on to play in the 1986 World Cup and later be admitted to the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame. And while I eventually learned to appreciate the merits of Der Kaiser and a multitude of other International stars, that early opportunity to watch some of Canada's top players playing professionally at home planted a seed that has culminated in my pursuing my passion for writing about Canadian soccer. Working for RedNation Online has been a passionate and transformative experience for me and the opportunity to be part of Rogers Sportsnet provides me with a top class environment to expand my horizons as a writer and to pursue my desire to promote Canadian soccer, as well as enlighten, inform and entertain its growing audience.
