Bio:"I had the distinction of being the first draft pick of the New York Yankees in 1976. After six years of toiling in the minors I finally got a chance in the bigs with the Cubs where I collected my first Major League hit in 1981.
My Major League career led me to Cleveland where I enjoyed five-plus seasons with the Indians. A pair of highlights stand out in my time with the Indians; an All-star selection in 1987 and a career-high .326 batting average in 1986. That 1986 number allowed me to finish fourth in AL batting behind three Hall-of-Famers named Mattingly, Boggs and Puckett.
The personal success I enjoyed in Cleveland was surpassed by being part of a winning team in Toronto at the end of my playing career. I was member of the AL East Champion Jays in 1991 and was there when the team went one better by winning the 1992 World Series.
My career transition from the field to the studio was relatively smooth. I landed my first media job in 1993 as a studio analyst for TSN on Baseball Tonight. I worked primarily in the studio over the next several MLB seasons but also was given the occasional chance to work in the booth as an analyst for Blue Jays game. Then in 2001 full-time analyst Buck Martinez took a job as manager of the Blue Jays and I jumped at the opportunity to work as the full-time Blue Jay analyst.
Being part of a live baseball broadcast is definitely a challenge. However, there is no place I would rather be then at the ballpark with the players and fans. I missed that atmosphere from my playing days and it may sound a little cliché but I truly have the best seat in the house.
No career is complete without a family with which to share the highs and lows. My wife Susan has been my partner for 26 wonderful years and we have been blessed with five children. Being the wife of a professional athlete is a trying experience but Susan has been with me every step of the way."
