Birthplace:

Vancouver, British Columbia

Birthdate:

Sept. 25, 1959

First media job:

1979 - CJDC Radio/TV, Dawson Creek, BC (News Reporter, Disc Jockey, Weatherman, you name it)

Career highlight:

The entire 1994 Stanley Cup Run by the Canucks ... covering the 1994 CFL Western Final in snow-bound Calgary between the Stampeders and the Lions.

Special interests/hobbies:

Watching bad television. I'm fascinated with community cable shows, made-for-tv movies of the '70s, and infomercials. Give me a couch, a fudgesicle, and two hours with Ron Popeil on a 32 inch Hitachi and I'm happy.

Bio:

Hey, here's a new one: I'm a frustrated athlete-turned sportscaster. Loved hockey, loved lacrosse, loved football … pathetic at all of 'em. This did not go over well in a family of six kids that included three older brothers, all of whom were of the "how can you be so smart and so good at sports too?" type. I was outcast. As a result, I went into a shell. Literally. At the age of seven, I found a large clam shell on a Stanley Park beach and lived inside of it for several months. To this day, the combination of lemon juice and butter makes me nervous.

However, my love for sports endured. I turned to broadcasting with the hopes of becoming a sports reporter. I attended Phil Swenson's Jock Talk College. I graduated with a C-plus average and landed a job at CJDC in Dawson Creek. From there it was on to local television and radio in Red Deer and then Vancouver. Now, here I am at Sportsnet, a big national network, one that covers sports from coast-to-coast, from country to country. That's exciting. But what thrills me the most is the thought that, one day, I might meet Marty York.
