The Miami Marlins’ fire sale in November of 2012 caused a lot of controversy between fans and players alike, all throughout the league. Marlins fans did not respond kindly to the actions of Jeffrey Loria and began to question his intentions of building a successful franchise.

Not only did the blockbuster trade damage their team, it damaged their fanbase as well. According to ESPN, Miami’s 2013 average attendance per home game is 17,318, which is a significant decrease of over 10,000 in 2012, and that number will continue to fall as the struggling Marlins fall further back in the standings.

With a record of 35-58 as of July 14, the recently-renovated team that once had hopes of reaching the playoffs has imploded.

On Opening Day, Marlins fans protested in anger and some were ejected for creating a disturbance. The most loyal fans even voiced their anger regarding the front office, and began to argue that Loria is not the best man to handle the team they’ve loved for years.
