Much has been made of the long nine year stretch since the Toronto Maple Leafs last played in the Stanley Cup playoffs. A lot has happened since 2004 and we thought it was time to find out what the Fan Fuel bloggers were up to in 2004 and how their lives are different. I mean, besides the obvious that Fan Fuel didn’t exist in 2004 of course.

Derek Carson: The last time the Leafs made the playoffs I was still living at home pretending to look for jobs so my mom would get off my case. Now I have my own place and a career but my mom still gets on my case, just for other things.

Alex Fletcher: In 2004, I was in my final year of elementary school and passed the time by building Lego sets and playing street hockey. Now in 2013, I am finishing up my third year of university and pass the time by reading textbooks and playing with financial calculators.

Kyle Myers: The last time the Maple Leafs made the playoffs, I was about to graduate grade eight. Now I am graduating from UWO and starting an internship with the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Craig Morwood: In 2004, I was in the midst of going to university, playing intramural hockey with buddies and in the early stages of dating my future wife. Now in 2013, I have been married for almost two years to that same woman, and instead of playing hockey, I have to resort to sitting in a chair and tapping on a controller to “get in the game.” In other words, just as the Leafs have been in a state of dormancy from true competitive action, so have I.

Sam Jacobs: In 2004 I couldn’t afford Leafs tickets. In 2013, I’m nine years older and I still can’t afford Leafs tickets.

Robert Zuccaro: In 2004, I finished my rookie season in House League hockey. In 2013, I have been retired from house league hockey for one full year.

Rob MacNeil: In 2004 I was single. Now in 2013 I have been married for six years and have a five year old daughter and a two year old daughter.
