Gareth asks: Ever since the 2012 Olympics Canada-USA women’s soccer thriller, I’ve been paying more attention to the game. I watched every bit of Sunday’s match and (despite hoping for Canada to win) loved the celebration by Sydney Leroux and liked the passion she brought. Do you think a little too much was made by the media on her celebration? Certainly have seen MUCH worse in men’s soccer. I thought it was pretty tame.

Gerry Dobson: The background to her story is what made her celebration a volatile move in some people’s opinions. She was born and raised in Canada and competed for Canada at the youth level. But she ultimately decided to play for the United States due to family ties there. Her celebration was deemed to be rubbing salt into the wound. My opinion is she can do whatever she pleases, but a player will always be judged by his/her behaviour on the pitch, and will have to live with the consequences.

Carter asks: What do you think of the return of Jose Mourinho to Chelsea? What are the odds he finishes the entire four-year contract under owner Roman Abramovich?

Gerry Dobson: History tells us that Mourinho has about a three year shelf life wherever he goes. If he wins multiple titles every year, then he may see out the contract. But winning multiple titles each year is no mean feat. Especially when the Champions League and the Premier League must be two of them.

Daniel Fernandes: Probably not. Partly because nobody coaches Chelsea for four years anymore. And Mourinho only tends to stick around for three years. So don’t expect him to complete his contract, but expect him to win trophies along the way. After all, he is “not one out of the bottle.” Also keep in mind that Mourinho has always publicly stated his desire to coach the Portuguese National team when he is “old.”

Sara asks: Can you please explain with the Quebec Soccer Federation is saying FIFA won’t allow them to have kids play soccer while wearing turbans? Is that really a FIFA rule?

Gerry Dobson: They claim it’s a safety issue. I’m no expert, but the decision seems to be heavy handed to me. It’s not clearly spelled out by FIFA as being against the rules. I think it’s a mistake.
