This is not the news MMA fans want to hear as UFC 189 draws near. UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo suffered a fractured rib during a training session Tuesday and his status for the event is unknown, according to Ana Hissa of Combate.
According to Combate, it was a kick that injured Aldo. The 28-year-old underwent two tests, including a CT scan, which confirmed the fracture and the fighter began treatment immediately.
The UFC has yet to comment on Aldo’s status, but sufficed to say if the UFC 189 headliner changes or is postponed it would be a major blow. With commercials like the one below, UFC president Dana White has said the company has poured more money into promotion for this fight than ever before.
