The CFL: Bigger balls, lower scores

(Matt Smith/AP)

For years the CFL has traded on the idea that, despite its lower stature and financial clout, on the field it’s more exciting than the NFL. This past week in football shows that idea to be complete (larger, CFL-size) balls. Compare the scoring stats from week 14 of the CFL with week 4 of the NFL, and Canada looks like the country that’s too polite to score points. The CFL was way more field-goal heavy (yawn), way less able to get majors and way less able to score in general compared with the NFL. A hundred percent more rouges, though. So that’s something.
