Laval QB Richard breaks two records vs. Gaiters

LAVAL, Que. – Laval quarterback Hugo Richard threw for a school-record 506 yards and a conference-record seven touchdowns to lead the Rouge et Or to a 64-3 thrashing of the Bishop’s Gaiters in Canadian Interuniversity Sport football action on Sunday.

The win marked Laval’s 24th consecutive victory, and 69th straight on home soil.

Richard completed 24 of 31 pass attempts while breaking the record of 416 yards set by Mathieu Bertrand in 2003, and the record for TD passes in a single game (six) set by Benoit Groulx in 2007. He was also intercepted once.

Felix Lechasseur and Felix Faubert-Lussier each caught two touchdowns for Rouge et Or (6-0), the defending Vanier Cup champions, while Maxime Boutin, Anthony Auclair, and Julian Bailey had the others.

For Bishop’s (1-5), Vincent Dube kicked a rouge in the first quarter, and the Gaiters took their remaining two points via a team safety conceded by the Rouge et Or in the third.

Gaiters quarterback Shane McDonald was 7 for 19 passing for 86 yards, Dube threw one pass for 20 yards, and Travis Eman was 0 for 5 as Laval’s defence held Bishop’s to 111 total yards.
