McMaster kicker Crapigna sets CIS record in win

OTTAWA – McMaster kicker Tyler Crapigna set a Canadian Interuniversity Sport record Saturday in the Marauders’ 27-10 victory over Wilfrid Laurier at Ron Joyce Stadium.

Crapigna, a native of Nepean, Ont., connected on all four of his field-goal attempts to give him 83 for his five-year CIS career. The previous career record of 82 was set by former Sherbrooke kicker William Dion in 2012.

Crapigna had 15 points on the day for the 7-0 Marauders, who will wrap up regular-season play next weekend at Ottawa.

For Laurier (4-3), quarterback James Fracas threw for 117 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted three times.

In other games, Mount Allison defeated Acadia 33-5 and Saint-Francis-Xavier dumped Saint Mary’s 36-6. Carleton topped Windsor 21-18, Sherbrooke crushed McGill 45-0, Queen’s hammered York 57-10, Guelph outscored Western 49-46, Toronto walloped Waterloo 61-13, Calgary downed Alberta 52-37 and B.C. edged Regina 33-32.

WOLFVILLE, N.S. — No. 7 Mount Allison (7-0) remained undefeated with its win over Acadia (2-5). Quarterback Brandon Leyh was 14 for 23 passing for 223 yards and two touchdowns.

ANTIGONISH, N.S. — Tivon Cook threw for 258 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions as St. FX (4-3) powered past Saint Mary’s (0-7).

OTTAWA — Jahvari Bennett had a 75 yard touchdown run in the third quarter to lead Carleton (4-3) past No. 10 Windsor (5-2). Austin Kennedy threw 25 passes for 278 yards and a touchdown in the loss.

MONTREAL — Jeremy Roch passed for three touchdowns as the visiting Sherbrooke (3-3) dominated McGill (0-6). It was Sherbrooke’s first shutout since a 44-0 home-field victory over St. FX in 2007, and it marked the first time that the Redmen had been blanked in 17 games, dating back to a 44-0 loss to Montreal in 2012.

KINGSTON, Ont. — Alex Carroll caught seven passes for over 200 yards and had a career high three touchdowns to lead Queen’s (2-5) over York (0-7). Quarterback Billy McPhee went 19 for 33 in the game, totalling 386 yards and four touchdown passes.

GUELPH, Ont. — Gryphons kicker Daniel Ferraro connected on a game-winning 41 yard field goal with 1.7 seconds left in regulation to lift No. 6 Guelph (6-1) over No. 4 Western (5-2). Quarterback Jazz Lindsey passed for four touchdowns and set a single game school record with 514 passing yards on the day.

TORONTO — Lukas Gavac had 12 carries for 134 yards and two touchdowns as the Varsity Blues (2-6) routed Waterloo (0-7). Boris Isakov caught three passes, two of which were for touchdowns, for Toronto.

EDMONTON — QB Andrew Buckley was 18-for-30, throwing for 307 yards and two touchdowns, while running in for three more, in No. 2 Calgary’s (5-1) win over Alberta (3-3). Golden Bears quarterback Curtis Dell competed 20 passes for 322 yards and two touchdowns.

VANCOUVER — Carson Williams threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns and Quinn van Gylswyk had a rouge with 1:59 left in the fourth quarter as UBC (2-4) beat Regina (1-5). Landon Buch had five carries and two touchdowns for the Rams.
