OTTAWA – Police in Thunder Bay say an announcement on a case involving allegations against some members of the University of Ottawa hockey team is expected with the next few weeks.

The police investigation was separate from a probe by the university, which resulted in the firing of head coach Real Paiement (ray-AL’ PAY’-mahnt) and the suspension of the program through the 2014-2015 season.

Police spokesman Chris Adams says they are reviewing the investigation with the Crown.

The university announced its actions yesterday after an internal investigation of allegations of drinking and sexual misconduct by some players during a trip to Thunder Bay in February.

University president Allan Rock says the coach was not involved in the misconduct, but should have notified authorities about the allegations.

Rock says the university will also put in place new policies and behaviour guidelines for athletes.

The university commissioned its own one-man inquiry into the incidents, but will not release the findings of that probe due to the police investigation.
