LONDON — Former England fast bowler Chris Tremlett says he is retiring from cricket on medical advice.

In a post on his Twitter account, the 33-year-old Tremlett says "my body, and back in particular, can no longer withstand the vigour of performing at the level required to play professional cricket."

Tremlett, whose 16-year career was plagued by injury, played the last of his 12 tests in November 2013 during England’s tour of Australia. He starred in the Ashes tour of 2010-11, taking 17 wickets — including the one that clinched England’s first series win in Australia in 24 years.

Tremlett says "wearing the Three Lions was the pinnacle" of a career in which he played domestic cricket for Hampshire and Surrey.
