BASEL, Switzerland – The United States edged Japan 5-4 on Saturday in the Page 3-4 game to secure a semifinal berth at the world men’s curling championship.

The Americans clinched the victory when skip John Shuster’s draw in the 10th end provided the winning margin.

The Americans were scheduled to face Denmark in semifinal action later Saturday night.

The winner will advance to the gold medal game Sunday against Canada while the loser will play Japan for the bronze medal.
