Brier Live: Koe wins 3-4 game after blackout delay

Team Canada’s Kevin Koe will take on Manitoba’s Mike McEwen in the Tim Hortons Brier semifinal in St. John’s, N.L.

Koe defeated Northern Ontario’s Brad Jacobs 6-2 in Saturday’s Page playoff 3-4 game after a power outage shortly after the third end suspended play for about an hour.

The winner of the semifinal plays Brad Gushue of Newfoundland and Labrador in Sunday’s championship game. Gushue topped McEwen 7-5 in Friday’s Page playoff 1-2 match to advance to the final.

Jacobs drops to the bronze medal game.

Jacobs faces a pair of counters and clips the top one with his last as his shooter spins away to give up two. That brings out the handshakes. CAN 6, NO 2

Jacobs keeps his a pair of rocks separated across the rings and Koe attempts to hit and roll behind cover. It rolls too far and stops the 12-foot for second shot and Jacobs draws into the eight-foot for a deuce to get on the scoreboard. CAN 3, NO 2

Another runback by Jacobs misses the target, taking out two of his own instead and giving up a steal. CAN 3, NO 0

4TH END

Jacobs makes a take out on his last to blank another end and retain the hammer. CAN 2, NO 0

Game on! Play has resumed in the fourth end with Northern Ontario holding the hammer trailing 2-0.

3:22 p.m. ET

Players have hit the ice again to throw practice stones.

The lights are back and the ice is getting a scrape.

The game has been temporarily suspended as heavy winds knocked out the power at the Mile One Centre.
