The curling community is mourning the passing of legendary skip Vic Peters, who died Sunday night at the age of 60 following a lengthy bout with lymphoma.

Peters was a three-time Manitoba provincial champion, captured the Brier in 1992 and earned a bronze medal at the worlds that year representing Canada. He was one of the “Big Three” Manitoba skips, alongside Kerry Burtnyk and Jeff Stoughton, who dominated the curling landscape in the 1990s winning a combined four Brier and two world titles during the decade.

The Steinbach, Man., native was also one of the “Original 18” skips who competed in the inaugural Grand Slam of Curling event at the 2001 Canadian Open.

Peters attended the Scotties Tournament of Hearts last month as his daughter Liz Fyfe competed for Team Manitoba. Alongside former teammate Dan Carey and competitors Russ Howard and Rick Lang, the four posed with their daughters who were all named to the second all-star team at the event.
