Earle Morris returns to coach son’s team

Earle Morris will return to coach his son John's rink (Andrew Vaughan/CP).

Team Morris named Earle Morris as the rink’s coach for the upcoming season.

Morris is the father of skip John Morris, who joined reigning Brier champions Pat Simmons, Carter Rycroft and Nolan Thiessen during the off-season after Kevin Koe parted ways with the trio.

Earle Morris coached his son to Canadian junior championships in 1998 and 1999 and recently helped guide Rachel Homan’s team to consecutive Scotties titles in 2013 and 2014. He also served as the coach for Australia’s national team from 2006-08.

Morris played in three Brier tournaments (1980, 1982 and 1985) for three different provinces.

“Even though Earle was planning on spending next season away from the competitive curling scene, the chance to coach his son, along with our relaxed schedule for this season was too enticing to pass up,” Thiessen wrote in a blog on the team’s website.
