Koe beats Bottcher to make the final in Alberta

Kevin Koe is a three-time winner of the Alberta Boston Pizza Cup (Anil Mungal).

Calgary’s Kevin Koe defeated Edmonton’s Brendan Bottcher 6-4 in the page playoff A-vs-B game to make the final of the Boston Pizza Cup in Wainwright, Alta.

Koe, a three-time Alberta champion, scored deuces in the first and fourth ends to build a 4-1 lead. Bottcher added two of his own in five to narrow the gap 4-3 but Koe didn’t relinquish the lead as they traded singles through six and eight.

Koe blanked the ninth to retain the hammer coming home and added another point to close out the game.

Although Koe captured the Brier a year ago, he parted ways with his team and gave up the Team Canada berth. Koe’s all-new rink features third Marc Kennedy, second Brent Laing and lead Ben Hebert.

Bottcher will have to play in the semifinal and meets former teammate Mick Lizmore, who scored one in the eighth and stole a point in nine to beat Aaron Sluchinski 7-5 in the C-vs-C game.
