Winnipeg’s Mike McEwen trails 7-3 against Sven Michel in Draw 4 of the Grand Slam of Curling’s Masters event on Wednesday in Abbotsford, B.C.
Michel, who defeated Moscow’s Andrey Drozdov 8-3 in the morning, scored a double in the sixth to break a 3-3 tie and pulled away with a steal of two in the seventh. The Swiss rink scored a pair in the opening end and added one in the third.
McEwen settled for singles in the second and fourth ends and stole one in the fifth.

Elsewhere, defending champion Kevin Koe defeated New Zealand’s Peter De Boer 5-2 in seven ends. The Edmonton rink scored two in the opening end, stole one in the second and added singles in the fifth and seventh.
In women’s action, Switzerland’s Mirjam Ott earned a steal of one in the second and scored a double in the fourth to lead 3-2 against Saskatoon’s Stefanie Lawton.
Chelsea Carey of Winnipeg has tied it up 5-5 with a double in the seventh against South Korea’s Ji-Sun Kim.
China’s Bingyu Wang has gone ahead 3-2 versus Sweden’s Margaretha Sigfridsson.
