Sherry Middaugh picked up a pair of big wins Tuesday and improved to a 2-1 record at the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Brampton.
Middaugh, of Coldwater, scored an 8-3 win over Allison Flaxey in the afternoon and defeated defending champ Julie Hastings 7-2 during the evening draw in a rematch of last year’s final.
Team Middaugh rolled out to a 5-0 lead scoring a deuce in the third and stealing one in the sixth and two in seven. Hastings took two in the eighth to get on the board, but Middaugh matched with a pair in nine.
Team Hastings, of Thornhill, are now 1-2 in the tournament.
Middaugh is a five-time winner of the Ontario Scotties.

Two-time national Scotties champ Rachel Homan (3-0) is the lone undefeated skip in the tournament following a 10-3 win in seven ends over Erin Morrissey (2-1). Homan scored a trio of treys during the all-Ottawa rink match.
Elsewhere in Draw 3, Toronto’s Cathy Auld (2-1) earned a 6-2 victory over 2005 Ontario winner Jenn Hanna (1-2) of Ottawa.
Jacqueline Harrison of Mississauga got into the win column defeating Mallory Kean of Stoney Creek 9-6. Both teams hold 1-2 records.
Julie Tippin of Woodstock topped Flaxey 9-3. Tippin climbed to a 2-1 record while Flaxey, the 2014 Ontario winner from Caledon, fell to 0-3.
