SELKIRK, Man. — Russia’s Anna Sidorova broke a tie with a four-ender in the sixth end and defeated Edmonton’s Heather Nedohin 8-5 to stay in the playoff race Friday at the Masters Grand Slam of Curling.
Sidorova opened the scoring with a triple in the first. Nedohin replied with a deuce in the second.
The two rinks traded singles through the third and fourth ends and Nedohin added a steal of one in the fifth to square it up 4-4.
Sidorova improved to 2-1 at the Masters and faces Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones in Draw 13. Nedohin finishes with a 1-3 record.
Elsewhere, Sherry Middaugh, from Coldwater, Ont., scored a triple in the seventh to tie it and stole one in the eighth to claim a 6-5 victory over Edmonton’s Chelsea Carey. Middaugh finishes the round robin with a 2-2 record while Carey (1-2) plays Ottawa’s Rachel Homan in Draw 13.
Winnipeg’s Kristy McDonald (2-2) stole one in the third and two in the fourth during a 5-2 win in seven ends over Saskatoon’s Sherry Anderson (1-2). Anderson meets Scotland’s Eve Muirhead in Draw 13.
In the men’s division, Olympic champion Brad Jacobs stole four in the fourth and two in the fifth during an 8-1 rout over Jim Cotter, from Kelowna/Vernon, B.C. Team Jacobs, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., earned their first win at the Masters (1-2 record) and face Sweden’s Niklas Edin in Draw 13. Cotter finishes at 0-4 in the tournament.
Switzerland’s Peter de Cruz (1-3) scored a four-ender in the fifth to end his Masters on a high note with a 7-2 win over Scotland’s David Murdoch (1-3).
