Vuelta leader Contador won’t race at Worlds

MADRID, Spain — Five-time grand tour winner Alberto Contador says he won’t compete in the upcoming road world championships.

Contador tells Spanish media “the worlds don’t enter into my plans.”

The world championships will be held in Ponferrada, Spain, from Sept. 21-28.

Contador spoke on a rest day at the Spanish Vuelta, which he leads with five days to go.

Contador says that after the Vuelta “my goal is to rest as much as possible.”
