MILAN, Italy — Italian cyclist Ivan Basso is set to resume training next week after medical tests revealed he doesn’t need surgery on a cyst in his seat area.
His Cannondale squad said Tuesday that Basso, who pulled out of the Giro d’Italia two days before the May 4 start, will undergo treatment that "should allow him to resume physical activity in the first days of next week."
Basso won the Giro in 2006 and 2010. He should be fully fit for the Tour de France and Spanish Vuelta.
