MELBOURNE, Australia — Australia’s Caleb Ewan won stage two of the Herald-Sun tour on Friday, holding off American Tanner Putt, race leader Peter Kennaugh and two-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome.
The 21-year-old Ewan edged Putt by a bike length from Putt on the 144.2-kilometre (89.6-mile) stage from Yarra Glen to Moe, and was three seconds ahead of Kennaugh.
Kennaugh held onto the race lead with a 13-second gap on Sky teammate Froome. Jock Bobridge moved into third overall.
Saturday will feature a 146.2-kilometre (90.8-mile) stage between Traralgon and Inverloch, the longest of the four stages on the tour.
