PONFERRADA, Spain — Pauline Ferrand Prevot of France won the road race in a photo finish at the road cycling world championships on Saturday.

Two-time defending champion Marianne Vos of the Netherlands was among riders caught and overtaken by Ferrand Prevot just meters before the finish line at the end of the 127.4-kilometre (79.1-mile) course.

Lisa Brennauer of Germany took silver for her third medal of the week after winning gold in both the individual time trial and the team time trial.

Sweden’s Emma Johansson was third.

The race saw several crashes and rain near the end. One major pile-up near the second of seven laps forced several riders to retire.
