Martin wins stage, Gilbert leads Tour of Beijing

BEIJING – Dan Martin of Ireland won the 157-kilometre (97-mile) fourth stage of Tour of Beijing on Monday, while Belgium’s Philippe Gilbert retained the overall lead.

Martin clocked 4 hours, 12 minutes, 14 seconds on the mountain-top finish at Mentougou Miaofeng, just 2 seconds ahead of the charging trio of Gilbert, Johan Esteban Chaves Rubio of Colombia and Rui Alberto Faria da Costa of Portugal.

Gilbert will take a 3-second advantage over Martin going into Tuesday’s final stage, with Chaves Rubio a further 6 seconds back.

The final stage starts from Tiananmen Square before 12 laps around the Bird’s Nest.
