MONTREAL — The World Anti-Doping Agency says it will work closely with cycling’s governing body to implement changes following the damning report into the sport’s doping past.
WADA director general David Howman says the agency will act on the independent report that attacked former UCI leaders for allowing doping to flourish during the Lance Armstrong era.
Among other things, Howman says WADA will examine the UCI’s past failures to apply therapeutic use exemptions properly.
Howman notes that the report says doping continues in cycling and some riders made payments to UCI officials to avoid testing.
He says "we will work closely and co-operatively with the UCI to implement the necessary changes."
Howman notes that WADA had been forced to defend itself against "what have now been proven to be completely unfounded and unjustified attacks by the then UCI leadership."
