Fan Fuel: Name the 2014 Olympics Team Canada men’s hockey team

BY TREVOR BOOTH – FAN FUEL BLOGGER

The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia will begin one year and three days from today and a new Team Canada will be taking the ice. I was reminiscing over the weekend how amazing it was to live in the city where the 2010 Winter Olympics were held, (Vancouver BC). Not only was it an awesome experience to attend several Olympic events live for the first time in my life, it was nice to finally be cheering WITH the people in the city where I live and not against them. Being a Toronto Maple Leafs fan living in Vancouver, I don’t always get that experience. The city and the entire country were united. High fives abound, red and white throughout, and smiles everywhere. We were a team, cheering for OUR team. Ah, the memories.

I thought it might be fun to take a look forward today. We will definitely see some familiar faces on our beloved Team Canada, but there will also be some new blood. Young men who have truly risen to the top of their sport since “The Golden Goal” by Sidney Crosby on the final day, in the final event, to beat the United States, in overtime, in Canada, to win the gold medal. (Hollywood can’t even write a scene like that and make it sound believable and yet that is exactly how it happened). Here are my predictions for Team Canada’s top nine forwards, top four defencemen and top two goalies heading towards the opening ceremonies in Sochi on February 7th 2014.

FORWARD LINE ONE: Steven Stamkos / Sidney Crosby / Corey Perry

FORWARD LINE TWO: Jamie Benn / Claude Giroux / Rick Nash

FORWARD LINE THREE: Taylor Hall / Jonathan Toews / Jordan Eberle

DEFENCE PAIR ONE: Shea Weber / Drew Doughty

DEFENCE PAIR TWO: Kris Letang / Alex Pietrangelo

GOALIES: Carey Price / Roberto Luongo

Agree? Disagree? I’m interested in hearing what everybody thinks in regards to filling out the roster, (including two spares). Add a fourth line, a third defensive unit and another goalie. Feel free to edit freely and dream big! The 2014 Sochi Olympics may still be a year and three days away, but, I’m starting to dream about OUR TEAM again Canada! Today!
