In the first week of the NHL season we’ve seen a lot of movement at the top of the NHL power rankings. Some teams have surprised us, disappointed us and other teams have played just as we expected them to. Share with us your thoughts on the rankings and where you think your team should be.
My NHL Power Rankings rank the seven Canadian NHL teams.
1. Ottawa Senators: So far the Senators have started off the season where they left off. Under the guidance of head coach Paul MacLean, don’t expect them to slip down much.
2. Winnipeg Jets: Personally I didn’t see this team making such a big splash this early on. This ranking may not last if they don’t get their goals against under control. If they buy into what head coach Claude Noel is selling, they will continue their strong play.
3. Montreal Canadiens: Even with the distractions of P.K. Subban, the Canadiens have found a way to keep the focus on the ice. Nice to see veteran defenseman Andre Markov back to game form. No need to rush signing Subban.

4. Vancouver Canucks: If this team doesn’t figure things out soon, they will be on the outside looking in when the NHL playoffs get underway. GM Mike Gillis needs to deal Roberto Luongo sooner than later to get that distraction out of the dressing room.
5. Edmonton Oilers: Still young with lots to learn, but you can’t help to think they will make a strong push for the postseason. Everyone had their opinions on Nail Yakupov’s goal celebration, but I liked it and think the NHL needs more players like that.
6. Toronto Maple Leafs: What can I say about the Leafs? If it wasn’t for the Flames dismal start, they would find themselves at the bottom of my rankings. Now that forward Joffrey Lupul is gone for up to six weeks, this team will be hurting to find someone to replace him. Hello, Ryan Getzlaf, yes that’s your phone ringing. Would you be interested in coming to Toronto?
7. Calgary Flames: For all you Flames fans I’ll keep it short. The flame is yet to be lit under any player’s pants and GM Jay Feaster should deal Jarome Iginla now while he may get something worthwhile in return.
