Fan Fuel: Did John Farrell pull a Brian Burke?

BY ROB MACNEIL – FAN FUEL BLOGGER

At noon Tuesday in Boston, John Farrell will be officially introduced as manager of the Red Sox. In the last week Farrell asked to be released from his contract with one year remaining to take over his dream job. The Toronto Blue Jays did not stand in his way. In 2008, with one year remaining on his contract, Brian Burke stepped down as general manager of the Anaheim Ducks to take his dream job with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Same thing? Or were the attempts by the Red Sox to steal Farrell away from the Blue Jays over the last year too different? If you are a fan of both the Blue Jays and Maple Leafs what do you think?

It’s been nearly four years since Brian Burke arrived in Toronto from another NHL city and now it appears the shoe is on the other foot.

I don’t recall the fans of the then-recent Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks that upset when Burke left, but maybe I’m wrong.

Do you see similarities in the Farrell and Burke moves? Or is it simply different because the Red Sox are a division rival?
