Damon Allen's pro football career could be coming to an end soon, possibly to begin a new phase of his life but still remain in the game and with the Toronto Argonauts, Sportsnet.ca has learned.
The veteran quarterback of 23 seasons and the all-time leader in pro football in career passing yardage, is under contract to the Argos, who picked up the option year on his contract. But it's expected he will retire shortly and accept a job with the team in either an ambassador's capacity or personal services role.
Asked about Allen's future on Thursday when the Argos unveiled newly-acquired quarterback Kerry Joseph and announced the contract extension of fellow pivot Michael Bishop, general manager Adam Rita said: "Soon the Damon Allen situation will be resolved in a very positive way."
Allen has been with the Argos for the last five seasons and is well-regarded by the team's ownership for the way he has conducted himself on and off the field.
