VICTORIA -- Sports fans and taxpayers shouldn't expect a quick decision from the provincial government about whether BC Place Stadium in Vancouver will get a new, high tech roof.
Reports say the B.C. cabinet will have a chance today to consider two options, replacing the existing inflatable covering for about $20 million or installing a retractable roof at 10 times the cost.
Tourism and Sports Minister Stan Hagen couldn't talk about cabinet's agenda but said replacing the roof is a complex issue and hinted strongly that cabinet will not have a decision today, even if the matter were to come up
BC Place is to be the used for the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Games..
But Hagen said that is not a factor and the government just wants to make "the right decision" regarding the quarter century old stadium.
Critics warn that work would have to begin almost immediately if a moving roof is to be installed in time for the Olympics.
