CFL Football has taken another step towards returning to the nation's capital, as Ottawa city council has voted in favour of pursuing exclusive negotations with Jeff Hunt's group to build a stadium at Lansdowne Park.
Wednesday's outcome does not guarantee that the CFL will return to Ottawa, as there are still several hurdles to clear. Hunt's group will now have a 60-day window to present their proposed plan to city council. City council voted 14-9 in favour of giving Hunt's group the exclusive window to design a plan for a refurbished football stadium and shopping district at the Lansdowne site.
Their group was awarded a CFL franchise on the condition that a new stadium is built.
