HAMILTON -- The Hamilton Tiger-Cats selected offensive Zac Carlson in the CFL supplemental draft Monday, then signed the rookie to a multi-year contract.

The six-foot-four, 300-pound Carlson, who played collegiately at Weber State, was born in Winnipeg but grew up in California. His application for non-import status wasn't approved in time to make him eligible for the CFL Canadian college draft May 2, therefore he was relegated to the supplemental draft.

Carlson had to prove to CFL officials that he lived in Canada for seven of his first 15 years in order to be deemed a Canadian-born player.

There was no indication what Hamilton gave up to select Carlson, but it's generally regarded the Ticats forfeited a 2010 first-round pick.

The Ticats have also signed receiver/fullback Darcy Brown from Saint Mary's, who was one of the club's two first-round picks in the May 2 draft. Offensive lineman Simeon Rottier from Alberta, taken first overall by Hamilton, signed with the CFL club prior to the draft.

"These talented, young players represent the building blocks of this franchise," general manager Bob O'Billovich said in a statement. "We believe that all three players have the ability to make positive contributions to the future success of the Tiger-Cats."
