TW LW Team Our Take
NR Anthony Calvillo and Ben Cahoon continue to amaze and continue to win games. Old AC looked like a glass of fine wine in the Als impressive road win over the Stamps. Marc Trestman had the Als looking like they were in midseason form.
NR With all due respect to Darian Durant, Riders defensive lineman Steve Baggs was the star of the show in their win over the Lions. Baggs spearheaded a nine sack tour de force over the Lions. If Durant can cut down on the interceptions, he might turn out to be a decent quarterback.
NR That was a nice way for Bart Andrus to officially begin his CFL coaching career. Other than that bone headed tribute to Michael Jackson by Arland Bruce the 3rd, the Argos offence had a solid game.
NR It's impossible to talk about the Eskies win over the Bombers with out talking about the injury to Jesse Lumsden. The hit by Siddeeq Shabazz was fairly routine. When Lumsden was helped off the field, everyone at Commonwealth Stadium knew it was bad. Jesse texted me after the game to tell me he would be back. I believe him.
NR I bet John Hufnagel privately said to himself that he's glad the Als beat the Stamps the way they did. Now, he can get the undivided attention of his team that the Grey Cup is over, and it's time to get serious abut the 2009 season.
NR Paging Rob Murphy, would you mind coming back to BC, the Lions could really use you. Buck Pierce didn't have a great game. Then again, the Lions gave up nine sacks against the Riders. Wally Buono has to shore up the offensive line in a real hurry.
NR For a team in the midst of a gigantic rebuild, the Bombers darn near won that game in Edmonton. I can't imagine Alex Serna had a pleasant flight home to Winnipeg. The Bombers offence is not good enough to have their kicker missing any kicks.
NR Someway, somehow, the Ticats have to find a way to win a freaking game in the month of July. Hamilton has to find a way to win a few games early in the season. Heading into week two and the Ticats have already been hammered by injuries in their back field.
