TW LW Team Our Take
1 It's to the point that everyone in the stadium knows that Anthony Calvillo is going to hook up with his favourite receiver Ben Cahoon as much as possible. Tad Kornegay knew the ball was heading for Cahoon and even with air-tight coverage, he couldn't prevent these two future hall of famers from hooking up for another big play. Marc Trestman deserves a big old pat on the back. The Als have the No. 1 offence, the No. 1 defence and they are the class of the league so far this season.
2 Yes, the Riders lost. But man, do their fans make a Riders game an event. Sitting in 30 degree C heat, proudly wearing watermelons on their heads, the Riders Pride faithful quaffed as much pilsner as humanly possible. As much as Ken Miller could not have been happy with the loss, there's little doubt the Riders lost to the best team in the CFL.
4 Two straight wins has the Ticats nation in a frenzy. Bob O'Billovich knew what he was doing when he acquired Kevin Glenn to work as a backup to Quinton Porter. Glenn came off the bench to toss two touchdowns as the Ticats won two straight games for the first time since September of 2006. The Ticats will really see what they're made of when they take on the Als in Montreal this week.
6 The Stamps got off the schneid in style. Wearing some sweet-looking retro unis, the Stamps were not going to be denied Friday night at McMahon Stadium. Henry Burris looked like the quarterback that put up big numbers in 2008 as the Stamps won their first game of the year. This week's game in BC should be a beauty.
3 Mike Kelly, you can yell at the media all you want. In the end, the football gods will always win. While Kelly spent all week yelling at the media for daring to ask him reasonable questions about "Spygate," the football gods got their revenge as former Bomber Kevin Glenn burned his old team. Maybe Kelly should spend less time barking at reporters for doing their job and more time coaching his team.
8 Down goes Buck Pierce, in comes Jarious Jackson. That was exactly what the Lions needed as they beat Edmonton for their first win of the season. Jackson's numbers since taking over for Pierce are incredible. Ninteen completions for 362 yards and four touchdowns. I'm not saying, I'm just saying, even if Pierce is healthy, I think Jackson should get the start against the Stamps.
5 The Eskimos have the dubious distinction of being tied with the Argos for having given up the most points in the CFL. Three games into the regular season and the Eskies have already given up a whopping 107 points. Now Richie Hall returns to Regina to face a Riders team in no mood to welcome him home.
7 That was ugly. And I am not just talking about that debacle of a trick play at the end of the third quarter. Kerry Joseph's ball security was brutal in Calgary. Two interceptions and two fumbles just isn't going to cut it in the CFL. Bart Andrus and his coaching staff still have a lot to learn about the CFL.
