TORONTO -- Quarterback Anthony Calvillo, a finalist for the CFL's outstanding player award for the second straight year, is among nine Montreal Alouettes named to the league's all-star squad Wednesday.
Calvillo was third in passing this season with 4,539 yards but had a league-high 26 touchdown passes in leading Montreal to a 15-3 record. He finished with a 72 per cent completion average and only threw six interceptions in 550 passing attempts.
Other Alouettes named to the team include running back Avon Cobourne, guard Scott Flory, receiver Kerry Watkins, defensive end Anwar Stewart, defensive tackle Keron Williams, linebacker Chip Cox and kick-returner Larry Taylor. Damon Duval was named both the all-star kicker and punter.
Both the Calgary Stampeders and Hamilton Tiger-Cats have four players on the squad.
CFL rushing leader Joffrey Reynolds, receiver Jeremaine Copeland, tackle Ben Archibald and cornerback Brandon Browner are the Stampeders' nominees. Reynolds is the West finalist for the outstanding player award. Calvillo took the honour last year.
Representing the Ticats are receiver Arland Bruce III, tackle Dan Goodspeed and linebackers Jamall Johnson and Markeith Knowlton.
Saskatchewan and Winnipeg both have three players on the squad. Centre Jeremy O'Day, guard Gene Makowsky and defensive end John Chick are the Roughriders named to the team. Defensive tackle Doug Brown, defensive back Jonathan Hefney and cornerback Jovon Johnson are the Bombers' nominees.
The B.C. Lions have two players on the team -- safety Barron Miles and defensive back Korey Banks -- while receiver Fred Stamps is the Edmonton Eskimos' lone representative.
The Toronto Argonauts did not have a player named to the squad.
Voting was conducted by the Football Reporters of Canada, CFL head coaches and fans from across the country.
