The Argos owners are making noise about playing at BMO Field but there's really no room for them.
Enough already. I don't know the Toronto Argonauts ownership very well but I do know this; they wanted in on the soccer stadium five years ago and then they wanted out. Then they wanted in again and then they wanted out again.
Never mind. Then Argos owners David Cynamon and Howard Sokolowski turned their attention to the wayward Phoenix Coyotes. There was a thought to buying into that mess… oh, wait a minute… maybe not.
Then came the notion of selling the Argonauts. This would be the same team Cynamon and Sokolowski bought with another CFL owner's money. Wait a minute. Turns out they want to keep the Argos after all. The Argos owners just want to play at BMO Field instead of the Rogers Centre. Haven't we all had enough?
These guys simply don't know what they want. And history tells us Cynamon and Sokolowski will want something else soon enough.
Be careful city hall, they'll change their minds before you know it. Right now it appears as though Cynamon and Sokolowski might try and strike a deal with the city to move the CFL team there. The city owns BMO Field, so it's city hall's call. Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment can't do much about it, which must be driving them crazy. They do have some influence however. MLSE are the building manager for the city and its major tenant and funding partner, so their influence might help sway things. Let's hope so.
But this is stupid. The field is way too small for a CFL game. Does the league really want to compromise its special format by allowing a team to play on a drastically-undersized field? The Argonauts brag about average attendance between 25,000 and 30,000. Do they want to shrink that number?
Maybe this is just a ploy to gain leverage with a new deal at the Rogers Centre? Soccer fans everywhere, do what you do best. Make some noise. Make this go away. Or maybe the Argos owners will soon find another distraction that moves them off this silly notion.
