CALGARY -- The Calgary Stampeders have taken tailback Joffrey Reynolds off the free-agent market.

The CFL club signed Reynolds to a contract extension Friday. Reynolds was slated to become a free agent next month.

"Joffrey is a key part of our team and we're delighted to have him back," Stampeders head coach and GM John Hufnagel said in a statement. "He is one of the premier backs in the Canadian Football League and his production speaks for itself. He is the model of consistency and professionalism."

Reynolds ran for a league-high 1,404 yards last season to capture his second straight CFL rushing title. He was named the West Division's outstanding player and was the runner-up to Montreal's Anthony Calvillo as the league's top performer.

Reynolds, 30, enters his seventh CFL season as Calgary's second-leading all-time rusher with 7,536 yards, trailing only Kelvin Anderson (8,292).
