CALGARY -- Canadian-born running back Jon Cornish re-signed with the Calgary Stampeders on Wednesday.
Cornish, of New Westminster, B.C., was scheduled to become a free agent Feb. 16.
"Jon has established himself as a very solid contributor to our team on offence and on special teams," Stampeders head coach/GM John Hufnagel said in a statement. "He always responds when given the opportunity and takes pride in all of his responsibilities."
Cornish appeared in 15 regular-season games plus Calgary's two playoff contests last season, rushing for 105 yards on 20 carries and two TDs. He also had eight catches for 76 yards and a touchdown while adding 18 tackles on special teams.
"I am very happy to be a member of the Stampeders for the foreseeable future," said Cornish. "Playing with the Stamps has been a great learning tool for me and I hope that through my continued development, I will be able to further contribute to this team down the road."
Cornish enters his fourth season with Calgary after being drafted by the Stamps in the second round (10th overall) of the 2006 CFL Canadian Draft.
