MONTREAL -- The Montreal Alouettes re-signed Canadian running back Dahrran Diedrick on Tuesday.

The six-foot, 222-pound Diedrick, of Toronto, signed a two-year deal, plus an option. He was scheduled to become a free agent later this month.

"This is great news," Alouettes general manager Jim Popp said in a statement. "Dahrran has been an important part of our success, and one of our top special teams players.

"His experience provides great insight in our locker room."

Diedrick is entering his sixth CFL season and fifth with Montreal. He appeared in 14 games last season, finishing second on the team with 12 special-teams tackles. He also rushed for 106 yards on 19 carries and recorded four defensive tackles.
