In search of someone to fill Paul LaPolice's cleats
February 6, 2010 | Source: Regina Leader Post
LaPolice — the Roughriders' offensive co-ordinator for the past two seasons — was named the Winnipeg Blue Bombers' head coach on Friday. The likeliest successor to LaPolice appears to be Jamie Barresi.
"Certainly, he'll receive strong consideration in that role,'' head coach and vice-president of football operations Ken Miller told the media on Friday.
Miller also said there is "a possibility'' that he himself will handle some of the play-calling — a role he performed during the Grey Cup season of 2007 as the offensive co-ordinator under Kent Austin. The fact that Miller is considering such a possibility also points to the elevation of an in-house candidate, and Barresi was the Riders' quarterbacks coach last season. "It's possible, maybe even probable, that it would be an internal kind of a promotion,'' Miller added.
