Argos sign Canadian quarterback Brannagan
March 15, 2010
MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - The Toronto Argonauts have acquired their third quarterback in a week, signing Canadian Danny Brannagan to a three-year deal Monday.
The Burlington, Ont., native was last year's Vanier Cup MVP after leading Queen's to the national championship.
The Argos, who last month cleared all the quarterbacks from their roster, signed QB Gibran Hamdan last Wednesday, a day after acquiring Dalton Bell in a trade with Saskatchewan.
Brannagan, 23, was one of four Canadian quarterbacks to participate in the CFL evaluation camp over the weekend in Toronto. Also invited were Erik Glavic of Pickering, Ont., Justin Dunk of Guelph, Ont., and Michael Faulds of Eden Mills, Ont. Faulds sat out due to injury.
Former Hamilton Tiger-Cat Larry Jusdanis was the last Canadian quarterback to start in the CFL in 1995.
"(Brannagan) is a special individual who brings a lot to the table," Argos coach Jim Barker said in a release. "He can make all the throws and he understands the Canadian game and how to read defences. We are excited to watch Danny compete with the other quarterbacks we have signed."
